“A child’s innocent interpretation can be an Artist’s inspiration; it was in 1977 that I was drawing a study of an old brick mold machine left abandoned at the outskirts of Jerusalem, that a curious young boy, named Fawzi, sat next to me to watch what I was doing. Endeared by his curiosity, I gave him colored pencils and paper for him to draw on. When he presented me with his final drawing of the machine, I was impressed by his candid creativity as he gave life and movement to an otherwise static machine. His work became the inspiration behind my own interpretation and I later called it “Fayez” which translates to the winner in English as an expression of awarding Fawzi for his achievement.” Samira Badran
