Memory of the Land Animated Short movie. “Palestine. A body is trapped at a checkpoint; an essential mechanism of the Israeli occupation. The body is pierced by structural and physical violence, which is aggressive and arbitrary and prevents and attacks its free movement and existence.” Says Samira Badran. Badran’s truncated legs are the protagonist of the animation film "Memory of the Land". They are a metaphor of the fragmented "body”- “land". to her the eyes are its expressive channel.
A total of two 2000 animated images of the legs were executed by Samira, and that included acrylic paintings, drawings with ink (sepia & Black), Pencil drawings on paper, and Intervention on Photographic Emulsion. Badran’s film “Memory of the Land” had its first viewing in the Arab world at Darat al Funun. In 2021 it was awarded the "Jury special mention" in the festival: Sole Luna Doc Film Festival, 2021 at Palermo - Italy. In 2020 it was awarded the Handala Award at Al-Ard Festival. In 2018 It won the Nazra Palestine award in the short film tour in Italy for best experimental; and in 2017 the film received a special jury mention at Huesca International film festival, Spain; It was also screened in a wide range of official selections in international festivals around the world.
It is noteworthy that the 2000 animated images in the video are artworks that were painted and executed by Samira; some of which she gave the privilege to Artzotic to exhibit under her paintings .
