“In “Elixir of Memory,” Hani Zurob embarks on a profound interrogation of memory’s indomitable spirit, set against the poignant backdrop of the Palestinian narrative. Utilizing tar—a material laden with connotations of adversity and resilience—Zurob weaves a visual lexicon that probes the intricacies of memory’s preservation and recollection.
The introspective works on display beckon viewers to transcend the confines of temporality and space, engaging with memory as a dynamic entity that shapes identity and counters historical erasure. The deliberate choice of tar, becomes a symbol for the tenacity of memories that resist suppression or oblivion.
Zurob’s oeuvre navigates the intricate interplay between personal and collective memory, shedding light on how individual narratives are enmeshed within the broader historical tapestry. His work serves as a conduit for these intertwined stories, fostering a dialogue that spans the past and the present, the intimate and the universal.

“في “إكسير الذاكرة”، يُقدّم هاني زُعرب استجواباً عميقاً لروح الذاكرةٍ التي لا تُقهر، على خلفيةِ سرديّةٍ فلسطينيّة مؤثّرة. باستخدامه القطران وغيرها من المواد المشحونةِ بدلالات الشّدَّةِ والمرونةِ معاً، يَنسجُ الفنانُ مفردات بصرية تغوص عميقاً في تعقيدات حماية ذاكرته واسترجاعها.
تدعونا هذه الأعمال التي تقوم باستبطانها وتأمّلها الخاصين، على تجاوز حدود الزمان والمكان، والدخول إلى الذاكرة باعتبارها كياناً ديناميكياً يَمنحُ شكلاً للهويّة ويُواجِهُ المحو التاريخيّ.
يَخوض عملُ الفنان في التفاعل المعقَّد بين الذاكرة الشخصيّة والجماعيّة، كاشفاً مدى وكيفية تشابك السرديّة الفرديّة داخلَ النسيج التاريخيّ الأوسع، ومِنْ ثَمَّ يَعملُ كقناةِ وَصْلٍ لهذه القصص المتّرابطة مقترحاً حواراً يَصِلُ الماضيَ بالحاضِر، والذاتيَّ بالكونيّ.
يدعو المعرض مُتلقّيهِ للتأمل في دور القوّة في تشكيل السرديّات التاريخية، وبذلك يُسلّط الضوءَ على التوتّر ما بين الأصوات المهيمِنة وتلك المهمَّشة. يَحثُّنا فنُّ هاني زُعرب على التفكير في الذكريات، سواء التي يُحتفظُ بها أو تلك التي تُحالُ إلى الظل، ما يدفعنا إلى استكشاف سياسات الذاكرة وقابلية تعرّضها إلى التلاعب.
الفنان هنا ملتزمٌ بجعلِ عَمَلِهِ “إكسيرَ الذاكرة” لنا جميعاً، كما هو له شخصياً. ومعرضهُ هذا دعوةٌ إلى التفكّر في مرونة الذاكرة وهشاشتها في مواجهة الأحداث، وفي قوّتها الدائمة أيضاً كمرجع للهويّة والصُّمود. ”

Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, in collaboration with Artzotic, opens Hani Zurob’s exhibition entitled “Elixir of Memory” on April 21, 2024 the exhibition will last through May 12, 2024
In his artist statement on this exhibition Hani Zurob writes:
“The collection of works presented in “Elixir of Memory” explore the complex interstices of memory and recollection, foregrounding the inherent frailty and lucidity within these processes.
As I traversed this realm, I was initially unaware that our collective engagement with these memories would soon reshape our understanding of time itself, weaving together past, present, and future in a tapestry fraught with pain yet hopeful for renewal.”

“شكّلت مجموعة هذا المعرض محاولة حسّيّة لاختبار الغوص في الطبقات الذهنية والمادية للحدود الواقعة بين حالة الذاكرة والتَذَكُّرْ، بكل هشاشتها وشفافيتها، حيث لم أكن أعرف حينها بأننا وبعد وقت قليل سوف نعيش وبكثافة مستمرة حالة التذّكر الجماعية هذه، ماضياً وحاضراً ومستقبلاً، بكل ما تحمله من وجع وأمل.”
